David Cox - November 09's Member of the Month

David has been a member with Anytime Fitness since April 09 and hasn’t been immune to the challenges we all face when looking to get in shape. With a busy schedule and little time to accomplish it, David knew that something had to change if he was going to change the path his health was taking. At 253 lbs and heightened blood pressure, David knew that he had to take his health more serious. That’s when he decided to join Anytime Fitness. David also was at 26.7% body fat and was starting down the path of medication-supported health. After starting personal training with Kim Oliverson and working hard, David is now at 218lbs and his body fat is 17.6%! That is one awesome transformation! Way to go Dave!

What has changed since you started your fitness mission?
“My blood pressure has gone down and my heart rate has dropped. My recovering heart rate has doubled. My goal is to lift my own weight and I’m on my way to do this. I’ve been able to start mountain biking and I just finished a half marathon in September!”

What are some differences that you’ve noticed since starting?
“I’ve poked some holes in my belt, I’ve started getting more definition and I feel great. I move much easier and my aerobic workout has become much easier. I was going to wait to get my
new wardrobe until I reached my goal but that did not happen since I started losing so much weight. I was a 44 waist and now I’m a 36! My kids are noticing the changes.
What has stopped you in the past and what did you do to overcome it?
I have to say that my trainer, Kim Oliverson, was a big reason. He clarified many things that I was not aware of that I saw on The Biggest Loser. He made me realize that the expectations I was setting for myself off of the Biggest Loser were not realistic and the TV show does not depict the full picture and can confuse and misinform many people. I also made a year commitment with Kim because I knew it would hold me accountable instead of losing when I try it myself. I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. I was also looking for more balance instead of just working.

What is your favorite workout?
I like the pull-up machine. When I started I had to add the weight up to 130 lbs and now I can do just 25 lbs. I’m very close to my goal of lifting my own weight.
What advice would you give someone starting out?
The difference for me was training. You can do it on your own but it is much tougher. Kim helped me on my training while I worked hard on my diet. I was able to ask Kim questions to clarify all the information out there. I was able to bounce questions off of Kim on many areas. He also taught me how to carb load before my marathon.

Kudos for Kim

Having Kim as a personal trainer this summer has been such a great experience for me. I came home from college for the summer and wanted to do something that would help get in better shape. I've tried working out before, but it's just never stuck - that is until I met Kim. I've put in a good effort with Kim, working out three times a week and doing stuff on my own on the side, and because of him, I have seen results! My clothes fit better since working out with Kim, I've actually needed to get some new clothes. I've lost inches everywhere, around my waist, thighs, arms, and my body is better toned. Kim is great to work with, he's motivational, easy to talk to, and he pushes you to be better. I'm so glad that I've gotten to know Kim this summer and I am really going to miss him when I go back to school. Kim is awesome! Thanks Kim!

Thanks anytime fitness!

Guess Who Chooses Anytime Fitness?

Despite having free memberships at 24 Hour Fitness, Gold's Gym, & Snap Fitness, Heather Hansen chooses every week to work out at Anytime Fitness in Bountiful. Heather, Bountiful's own contestant and final four competitor on the popular TV reality show, Biggest Loser, loved the atmosphere in our club and knew it was a place she could work out at several times a week without having to worry about the stress that sometimes comes with being a local celebrity. As time has gone on, those feelings have only been solidified.

Not only has Heather loved her experience at the gym, but she's also been loving the her personal training with her trainer, Kim Oliverson. Here's what Heather had to say three months ago when she started:

"First training session was a big surprise- I was really nervous because the last time I was in a gym it wasn't very fun, in fact there was a lot of throwing up and pain. Kim is an amazing trainer, I actually really enjoyed my training session and decided you know what I can do this! I have been meeting with Kim 3 times a week and it has been amazing to see my body to start to change. Last week was the best workout I have had with Kim yet, it was awesome I actually felt like an athlete. It was fun to see the excitment in Kims face, he was jumping around like a school kid yelling YES YES your back your back- anyway it was one of the greatest workouts ever. Working out doesn't have to be miserable- I have done it that way and I would never go back! I don't think working out 8 hours a day is realistic or fun. When I came home from the ranch the weight came back, I have worked with some great nutritional products to get a lot of the weight off but bottom line I don't look fit and that doesn't feel good to know I look terrible in a swimming suit. I am excited about my journey back to health and fitness with Anytime Fitness!"

Now that she's been working out regularly for 90 days, Heather has seen great results and is excited to share her experiences.

"I have now been working out with Kim from Anytime Fitness and I am so excited to report being down 1 1/2 inches in my waist, 3 in my thighs and feeling better than ever! Training with Kim has been a really great experience, when we started I couldn't even squat all the way down to the ground because of my bad knees. The other day we were working out and he said to go all the way down- I surprised myself and did. I am finally to the point where I feel my body getting stronger and it's a great feeling. In just 3 months I have gone from being completely out of shape and kind of depressed to feeling AMAZING. No I don't look like I want to but I know that will come if I continue doing my part. I am understanding it's not all about what the scale says, it's about how you feel and it's a journey- NOT a TV show :) I guess I really just want people to know that in 90 days they can take the steps of making a dramatic change in their lives. I work out with Kim 3 days a week, not 6 or 7 days.... just 3 days a week and I have increased my strength and endurance to unbelievable levels.
Thanks Anytime Fitness!!

Member Appreciation a Success!!

Thank you to all who came to our member appreciation party last Monday. It was a great success. We had a great turn out for the special classes held that night and I think everyone had a lot of fun! I didn't get any pictures of the Cardio Twisted, but I did get some of the circuit training where they were definitely being worked hard.

Rebecca Golightly and Amy Millar being instructed by circuit trainer Elicia Boothe

Elicia helping Janet and Gordon Curl through their circuit stations

George Millar came to try out the gym with his mom, Amy. He complained for a couple of days after :)

We are very appreciate of all of our sponsors for this event. Thank you to Costco, Texas Roadhouse, Jimmy John's, Rumbi, Paradise Bakery and Cafe, and Bountiful Bowl. Please thank these great businesses the next time you use their establishment.

Stay tuned for the winners of the member drawing. There were some great prizes up for grab!
